One More Election Season

“Do as I say, not as I do,” is a disastrous parenting mantra. Covid-era politicians tried the same game when they partied with friends (without masks) while threatening to arrest us for doing the same. So, it is with more than a grain of humility that although I have done so, I entreat my fellow citizens not to sit out this election or vote for a write-in or third-party candidate.

I have done both of those things. I wrote more than one Musing in the years 2011 – 2016 expressing how fed up I was with the political choices being offered to me by the conservative mainstream. While I haven’t technically missed voting in any elections, I have left empty boxes when I couldn’t support any of the candidates running for office. I have voted for third-party candidates with zero chance of winning in the quixotic hope that the Republican Party might notice an imbalance when more people voted, for example, for the Senate candidate on the ballot than for the Presidential one. All was to no avail; it took Donald Trump to wreak havoc and force the establishment to plot a new course.

In all the above cases, the candidate I distrusted and/or disliked had no chance of emerging victorious. I concluded that since my vote would not affect the outcome, it didn’t really matter. Yet, in the upcoming election, I want to urge each of you not only to vote, but to hold your nose if necessary to vote Republican. In addition, I’d like you to make a case for doing so to your neighbors and friends. (Obviously, if you are happy with positive outcomes Republicans have achieved, and there are quite a few, the imperative to vote should be even greater.)

There are many reasons to be disgruntled, disappointed, and disapproving of the Republican Party in general and specific candidates in particular. There are numerous competitions around the country, and you may well be disgusted with the choices available to you. But next month the candidates themselves are almost irrelevant. No matter who they are, by virtue of their party affiliation, voting Democratic (with the possible exception of Senator Fetterman) means voting for socialism and Islam. Meanwhile, even terrible Republican candidates are, at the very least, warm bodies needed to keep a majority. If you have a decent candidate, but one who seems to have little chance of winning, there is all the more reason to round up everyone you know and vote. A shocking one third of eligible voters ignored the 2024 presidential election. Almost every election result would be different if more people voted.

Republicans today run the risk of being led off a crazy ledge by resentful extremists, following in the path of Democrats who have already succumbed to DSA anti-Americanism. But they aren’t there yet and the Democrats are. So, while I think that good citizens need to stay involved and exert pressure on politicians after November, Election Day is the crisis at hand.

A blue wave is being predicted and there are many reasons that makes sense. But many of the stories predicting Democratic wins also are designed to demoralize and depress conservative turnout. Some, coming from the right, are self-righteously expressing vindication for their anti-Trump positions. Here’s the thing: self-fulfilling prophecies are real. I completely understand feeling unmotivated and annoyed by some of the choices on the ballot around the country. I also understand being tempted to look at my phone hundreds of times a day. Neither of those feelings should dictate my actions.

If you think my concern with Democrats holding the levers of power are exaggerated, I urge you to devote a few hours to research. If you are aware of the dangers of DSA and Islam, I ask you not to do what I have done in the past, but instead to cast your ballot as a decisive stand against those destructive political philosophies.

  1. Mrs. Lapin, Thank you for this information. It comes just in time to give me the direction in which my vote should be cast. Shalom.

  2. Vote RED America, the left the world over is currently & since the last election creating situations to force a blue vote, but I dare believe American voters are far wiser and can see through it and am so praying even from my third world country for you to do the right thing, vote RED America please

  3. Nope. Sitting this one out until we are out of all unnecessary wars and we figure out what happened to Charlie Kirk.

I too, Marcus, have things I am very disappointed in. But I saw a graphic this morning that I couldn’t figure out how to reproduce showing some bugs (NOT THAT I AM CALLING YOU A BUG!) that said, “The cockroach out of hatred for the ant, voted for the insecticide” and then the next frame showed them all dead and said, “They all died. Including the cricket who voted blank and the fly who did not go to vote.”
That is how I am feeling.
