Why is my cheating spouse is doing great?

March 31st, 2016 Posted by Ask the Rabbi No Comment yet

Question:

Why when one is faithful in a marriage and is betrayed it seems like they are punished by the break up of the family and losses. The cheater goes on and looks successful.

How to move forward?

∼ Karen

Answer:

Dear Karen,

We are so sorry for what sounds like a tremendously difficult time you are going through. You are right that a sad feature of reality is that in this world the wrongdoer often seems to do better than the wronged. In Drivers Ed., they used to tell us that in a car crash caused by a drunken driver, the drunk is often less injured than his victims since his body doesn’t tense up at seeing the accident is imminent.

I think I have heard that Daniel and Susan are married. She wears at least an engagement ring but Daniel has no ring nor a mark of wearing a ring. What is the story behind this?

Should My Husband Join My Business?

June 10th, 2015 Posted by Ask the Rabbi No Comment yet

Question:

My husband and I are ready your book on business as a result of seeing you on the 700 club. I have been in business for 25 years in the Imprinted Apparel business and recently my husband lost his job. It made sense for him to join the business as he is 10 years younger than me and I have to deal with a lot of boxes and deliveries when jobs are completed.
My business has supplied me for 25 years but it is a small business and now we need to generate enough income for 2. We start our day everyday reading scripture and praying and then get to work. So far so good as the last Summer Camp order was double the size of last year. It is still a step in faith as we attempt to grow our business and ask God to help us.
Is there any specific advise you would give us? Thank you and God bless you today.

∼ Lauren A.

Answer:

Dear Lauren,

If you have been in business for 25 years and it is growing, you must be doing many thing right. You clearly invite God to bless and guide your business which is always an important step.

Is it okay to lie?

April 23rd, 2015 Posted by Ask the Rabbi No Comment yet

Question:

I would like to know the ancient Jewish wisdom on lying. Although it is forbidden it seems to be condoned at times in the Bible, such as the stories of Rahab and the Jewish midwives in Egypt.

Could it be that it is permissible where it is for the greater good rather than for harming another or for one’s own selfish gain?

Thank you.

∼ Marcus W.

Answer:

Dear Marcus,

A number of years ago, we had a Thought Tool on this topic that caused quite a commotion. It is possible that this is one of the areas where Judaism and at least some streams of Christianity differ.

I’m crushed by a miscarriage

April 1st, 2015 Posted by Ask the Rabbi No Comment yet

Question:

My wife and I have recently lost our baby girl at 29 weeks for unanswerable reasons though various tests have been completed.  We know that we must place all our trust in YHVH and His Words.rWhat does Jewish Wisdom speak of mourning versus grieving?

The Book of Job has been speaking much louder to me at this time. Can you offer guidance as we study through Job’s experience and restoration?

Thank you

∼ Scott S.

Answer:

Dear Scott,

We not only deeply sympathize with you, but having undergone the same experience (twice) we empathize as well. Your hearts had already expanded to include a daughter and now your extended hands will be empty. Truly, even if medical tests discover a heart defect or other complication that wasn’t compatible with life, you would still be grieving. The happy dreams you were imagining won’t come to fruition.
